Tours
Visiting the Henry with your group
The Henry offers 50-minute tours to both student and community groups. Henry exhibitions often relate to current social issues and offer many curriculum connections for classroom use. Exhibition Guides focus on a selection of objects that illustrate a theme or idea and engage visitors in lively discussions that emphasize critical thinking skills. Most school tours include a writing or drawing project in the galleries to encourage individual response. In addition to a guided tour, an exhibition-related art making lesson in our Education Studio can be incorporated into your visit. Henry Education Staff are also available provide guidance and advice concerning exhibitions and interpretive materials for students.

Scheduling a Tour
Four weeks advance notice is recommended for Guided and Self-Guided tours. Scheduling in advance helps prevent overcrowding in the galleries. Tours are available Wednesday through Sunday during open hours. Groups larger than sixteen are divided and receive at least two Exhibition Guides. Required adult-to-student ratio: elementary 1:5, middle school 1:7. high school 1:10. A maximum of sixty students may visit the museum at one time. Exhibitions change regularly at the Henry, so please refer to the schedule for exhibitions specific to the time of your visit.

Student Tour Options
The Henry is delighted to announce that tours for school-aged (Kindergarten through High School) groups are now FREE!
During our 50 minute long tours, students and their teachers will participate in gallery projects and lessons that encourage individual response. Classes may also take part in an exhibition-related art making lesson. These tours will be tailored to class and instructor needs, and Henry Education Staff members will be available to meet with teachers in advance for a free curriculum consultation. Museum Education Manager Halinka Wodzicki commented,
“Our tours at the Henry are unique in that our Education Staff takes the time to tailor tours to individual teacher’s needs and curriculum. While on a tour students engage in lively discussions with our UW Student Guides and are challenged to think openly and creatively. At the Henry we push students to think at the edge of what feels comfortable and in doing so they learn how to be critical thinkers and to develop their own voice."
