Curatorial Internship
General Information

Interested in contemporary art? The Henry Art Gallery curatorial internship provides an introduction to the world of contemporary art, professional museum practices, and numerous aspects of researching, planning, and mounting museum exhibitions. The internships are an excellent resource for students considering a museum profession. The opportunity is open to any motivated individual in any department but might appeal particularly to undergraduate and graduate students in Museum Studies, Art History, Studio Art, Design, Architecture, and CHID programs who have completed—with demonstrable success—at least one year of academic work. Juniors, seniors, and graduate students may be given priority.

Intern duties focus on the following areas:

1. Research: assisting with exhibition and project research in libraries, via the internet, by telephone, and written correspondence.
2. Proposal maintenance and data entry: assisting with entry of artist and exhibition proposals into existing database, preparing meeting reports, facilitating meetings, and drafting follow-up letters.
3. Archiving: assisting with compiling and maintaining exhibition, project, and installation photography archives.
4. Correspondence: assisting with departmental correspondence, including mailings, individual communication, faxes, and email.
5. Exhibition and departmental support: providing general support for many aspects of the exhibition process; assisting with exhibition checklist preparation; and general administrative support.

Academic credit may be available. It is the responsibility of the student to establish this with his or her academic unit.

Graduate students interested in opportunities at the Henry should contact the curatorial department for information on in-depth research and practicum availability.

There are currently no available positions.

Please direct all questions to Curatorial Associate Merith Bennett at or 206.221.3611.
