Ann Hamilton: Accountings
North Galleries
January 22, 1992 – April 5, 1992
Accountings transformed the museum’s entire exhibition space with an installation that enveloped the viewer through poetically implied narrative and symbolic themes. The installation drew on the artist’s earlier piece, parallel lines, which she created as U.S. representative at the 21st international Sao Paulo Bienal in Brazil, for which the Henry was the organizing institution. The floor was skinned with steel tokens, walls were licked with candle soot, wax votive heads filled an oversized vitrine, and 200 canaries flew free.
