Contemporary Works from the Monsen Family Collection
North Galleries
August 5, 2010 – November 28, 2010
Among the most dedicated Henry benefactors, Joseph and Elaine Monsen have been collecting photography for over 40 years. In addition to focusing on the history of the medium, they have always kept an eye on the most current developments frequently adding important works from young up-and-coming artists. Michael Van Horn, curatorial advisor to the Monsens, presented a selection of contemporary art from their ever-growing holdings. Van Horn’s selections focused on the current trend toward abstraction in photography, contrasting that with one of the medium’s constants — the figure. Featured artists included Walead Beshty, Eileen Quinlan, Torbjørn Rødland, James Welling, and others.
