Six Portraits by Thomas Ruff

North Galleries

April 29, 2010August 1, 2010

Thomas Ruff. Porträt (J. Röing).

German artist Thomas Ruff does not seek to capture the emotional or psychological state of his sitters. According to the artist, no matter how faithful the image, the individual is always unknowable and inaccessible. Ruff foregrounds the impossibility of fixing identity or perception and introduces a new form of contemporary representation through his Porträt series. The Henry Art Gallery presented six photographs from this series from the Joseph and Elaine Monsen Photography Collection.

This exhibition is organized by Henry Curatorial Associate Misa Jeffereis.
