Terraform 1
Media Gallery
December 8, 2000 – April 19, 2001
A unique laboratory project, “Terraform I” was a far-reaching interdisciplinary collaboration spearheaded by the UW’s Center for Advanced Research Technology in the Arts and Humanities (CARTAH) and presented at the Henry. A terraform is a world that has been made habitable or earthlike, supporting life where none previously existed. By means of computer-generated and computer-controlled light, video and audio projections, a dynamic abstraction of space and time is created within the confines of the four physical walls of the gallery. Visitors discovered and were enveloped in a virtual reality. The project was led by Richard Karpen, CARTAH Director, and masterminded by a team of artists, composers, students, scientists and technicians. This exhibition was made possible in part by support from the UW Center for Advanced Research Technology in the Arts and Humanities.
