Peter Shelton: STRETCHspread
East Gallery
January 19, 2001 – April 8, 2001
“STRETCHspread”, a gift to the Henry’s permanent collection from the Lannan Foundation, along with two preparatory drawings, was installed in the Henry’s two-story East Gallery. Cast in red brass and silica bronze, the two-part sculpture suggests organic as well as truncated and elongated human forms. Suspended in and branching across the gallery space, “STRETCHspread” impacted the viewer intellectually, emotionally and even viscerally.
