Susan Robb: Seedling

North Galleries

January 11, 2002May 12, 2002

In 2002, 911 Media Arts Center, in collaboration with the Henry, hosted an intensive residency program called New Works Laboratory, to encourage the confluence of traditional art practices with digital media and experimentation in new technologies. This year, Susan Robb’s installation “Seedling” was chosen for exhibition at the Henry Art Gallery. “Seedling” dwarfs the viewer in a close vertical environment of 10-foot ’"reeds." Clusters of speakers and other small protuberances sprout from these soft, white, fleshy stalks. Hanging from the top of each stalk are two 5-inch television monitors, each playing a series of monochromatic videos whose digitally manipulated images rotate to the center of the installation.
