An exhibition of rugs, dowry textiles, and silk robes from the major textile centers along the Silk Route, dating from the 13th – 20th century. Rugs on loan from the collection of James D. and Stephanie Burns illustrated how patterns evolved and design elements were abstracted and borrowed as they traveled along the Silk Road. “Silk Road Seattle” was a collaborative public education project using the Silk Road theme to explore cultural interaction across Eurasia. The project, along with a wide array of public programming, included a concert series hosted by the Seattle Symphony in May 2002 , and was organized by Yo-Yo Ma, Artistic Director of the Silk Road Project, Inc.

Curated by Judy Sourakli, Curator of Collections
Seattle Arts Commission, the Henry Art Gallery’s Contemporary Art Fund and the Kayla Skinner Fund.
