Komar and Melamid's "The People's Choice and Art for the People: A Response from Seattle"

Russian émigré artists Vitaly Komar and Alexander Melamid had completed a national survey of American public opinion on taste in art. Based on the qualitative data resulting from this professionally administered survey, the artists created two paintings – America’s Most Wanted and America’s Most Unwanted. At the Henry, this exhibition was presented with the added context of a response to the issues within the project Art for the People, twelve individuals from the Seattle area to were asked to select works of art they feel exemplify an effective relationship of art to a public audience.
