After Art: Rethinking 150 Years of Photography
North Galleries
December 4, 1994 – March 26, 1995
This exhibition explored photography’s incomparable ability to offer images of great visual beauty while bringing forth fascinating questions about context and interpretation. The structure of the exhibition rejected a linear historic exploration in favor of a reexamination based on current ideas in contemporary photography and art, a look from the present into the past. Over 200 works spanning the entire history of the medium from the extensive private collection of Joseph and Elaine Monsen.
