Rebeca Bollinger: Fields
Mezzanine
August 11, 2007 – November 11, 2007
Rebecca Bollinger explores seemingly opposing forces: database systems that order digital information and the apparent randomness of such data found on the internet. For her series of photos and videos entitled “Fields”, Bollinger documented her environs daily over two years. The process resulted in a huge repository of arbitrary images often captured by holding the digital camera at arm’s length and then shooting from various angles. The DVD “Fields” (2001) presents a continuous scroll of images from this vast repository tiling hypnotically across the screen. In three accompanying photographs she arranged data from the archive according to colors and days of the week, creating compelling abstract compositions out of pixel-like bits.
