This entry in the Short Stories series featured recent acquisitions of works by vibrant young artists that have entered the collection through the generosity of the Henry Contemporaries acquisition event. Guided by criteria to choose significant, cutting edge artworks that complement or enhance the collection, the event and related donations have brought over a dozen new works in video, photography, drawing, painting, and sculpture into the collection over the last five years. Works on view by Claire Cowie, Dora Garcia, Elizabeth Jameson, Brian Jungen, Cameron Martin, and Santiago Sierra demonstrated the Henry’s mandate to support up-and-coming artists in striking ways. Short Stories are curatorial inquiries using the Henry’s collection as a catalyst.

Sara Krajewski, Assistant Curator
Sponsored by the Office of Arts and Cultural Affairs, City of Seattle and the Henry Art Gallery’s Contemporary Art Fund. In-kind support provided by The Grand Hyatt Seattle. Additional exhibition support is provided by the cultural development authority, King County Hotel/Motel Tax Fund.
