In Ruin: Architectural Photographs from the Permanent Collection highlights the enduring appeal of architectural ruins and the desire to capture the demise, decay, and impending destruction of man-made structures. This exhibition explores issues of memory, monumentality, and the picturesque through a selection of historical and contemporary photographs spanning from the 1860s to the end of the 20th century. In Ruin features work by the D’Alessandri Brothers, John Divola, Joel Sternfeld, and others culled from the Henry’s photography collection.

Organized for the Henry by Merith Bennett, Senior Curatorial Associate.
Featured artists: Paul Caponigro, Dimitrios Constantine, Giovanni Crupi, D’Alessandri Brothers John Divola, Francis Frith, Eugene Omar Goldbeck, John Wheeley Gough Gutch, Anthony Hernandez, Kenro Izu, Clarence John Laughlin, Robert MacPherson, Charles Roitz, Joel Sternfeld, Frank Meadow Sutcliffe, Louis Vignes
