Artist Lecture: Jeffry Mitchell

Thursday, November 8, 2012, 7:00 - 9:00 PM
Henry Auditorium
$5 Students, Henry Members, and UW Staff & Faculty
$10 General Audience

Join exhibiting artist and 2009 Stranger Genius Award winner Jeffry Mitchell and Claudia Fitch for a conversation in conjunction with the exhibition Like a Valentine: The Art of Jeffry Mitchell. Hear more about the artist’s distinctive visual language and learn how Mitchell’s seemingly nostalgic sentimentality quickly gives way to complex themes and narratives.

“Another Seattle artist recently asked me, ‘What are you doing? What is it really about?’…And I told him: I’m trying to negotiate fear. I’m trying to get in touch with my feelings and impulses and honor them without being afraid. That’s what I’ve always tried to do, I think—tried not to be afraid. It’s an endless battle.” – Jeffry Mitchell interview with The Stranger in 2009
