Before Michael Pollan, there was Wendell Berry, farmer, poet, and environmental revolutionary. In honor of Berry, who will visit Seattle on May 24 as part of Seattle Arts and Lectures’ American Voices series, SAL’s has gathered a compelling group of thinkers, authors, and farmers who will cover wide range of topics related to food and our environment, such as food deserts, obesity, and urban farming. The series will conclude with a special Saturday trip to tour the University of Washington’s farm which educates the community about possible negative impacts of our food choices and models how we can reduce those impacts. The visit will conclude with prosecco and pizza from the farm’s wood-fired oven.
This program is presented in partnership with the Henry Art Gallery and the University of Washington’s Program on the Environment. An incredible group of lecturers will be brought together for this series and will be announced as we finalize them.
