Kirkland Arts Center Lecture: Brian Gillis

Friday, September 10, 2010, 7:00 - 8:30 PM
Henry Auditorium
Henry Members, Kirkland Arts Center Members FREE | General Admission $5

Disobedience: The refusal to follow instructions or behave in accordance with a law, rule, or order regardless if it is inferred, conditional, corporeal, or compulsory, whether by an outside entity or self imposed.

A solo exhibition of new work by Brian Gillis (Eugene OR), NO! will transform Kirkland Arts Center’s gallery space into a laboratory in an effort to understand what role disobedience has played in human development. Gillis examines a definition of disobedience through a juxtaposition of abstracted social, scientific, and technological events. His site-specific installations put the audience in direct relationship to these investigations as a viewer, participant, and protester. NO! will bring together a tank, a hydroponic grow room, a safe-dialer, and fully-functional reprographics center in an effort to understand how “NO!” can be affirmative.

Join us at the Henry to meet the artist, and hear more about this exhibition.
