Internships
The Henry Art Gallery offers internships throughout
the year in the education department. Internships are open
to studio art, art history and museum studies students or
others interested in pursuing a museum career. Applicants
need a completed or near-completed undergraduate degree or
should be enrolled in a graduate program. Henry internships
provide an introduction to the world of museums and professional
museum practices, and provide museum training for those looking
to enter the museum profession. The internship is unpaid (but
it is possible to earn credit), and involves 15-20 hours of
work per week during the academic year, and up to 20 hours
or more during the summer quarter.
Internships
focus on:
1. Exhibition
research, preparation, hanging, storage, cataloguing, and condition
reporting
2. Research and writing of wall text and labels, and gallery guides
for both adults and children
3. Assistance with development and execution of lecture programs
4. Preparation for and conducting of exhibition tours for either
children or adults
5. Preparation of teacher curriculum guide materials or exhibition
catalogues
6. Assistance with the Artlink museum-school partnership program
Interns
work with either the exhibition curator, curator of collections,
or curator of education. Internships vary greatly depending on the
exhibitions on view and coming up, therefore it is important for
prospective interns to look at the schedule and determine a good
time for their internship. A call for intern applications is sent
two to three times a year, usually in the middle of spring quarter
for the summer appointment, and mid-summer for academic year appointments.
If you are interested in a specific time of year, contact the Henry
at least three months prior to your desired start date.
No
education internships are currently being offered. Please
check this page periodically for updated information.
